Enter the doorway off of Front Street under the awning that says Wooden Gallery and enjoy striking works of art as you walk down the hallway to the unique art gallery where beautiful paintings and photographs are showcased without glass. Only part of what makes these pieces so remarkable are the works themselves.

Nearly 35 years ago, the owner of The Wooden Gallery, Michael Desforges, first developed a unique acrylic emulsion whose properties form a very strong, flexible film that stands superior for the preservation of art work and photographs. With this process, prints are completely saturated in this emulsion, and then embedded into the mounting surface. Finally, the emulsion is applied by hand and textured to bring out all of the colors and richness the piece has to offer. As a result of this archival process, the artwork is forever preserved and protected against UV rays, peeling and chipping, and even scratching. The best part is, all types of glass have been eliminated. Without glass, you are left with the nicest possible presentation of a poster, giclee, or photograph. This process gives the work of art new life beyond framing.

Mike and his staff would be happy to help you select one of the hundreds of works of art The Wooden Gallery has on display. You can also bring in a photograph, newspaper article, lithograph, or child’s artwork you currently have, and they can put it through the emulsion process to preserve and protect.

If you do not have time to visit the store, The Wooden Gallery has an extensive website, where you can see over a thousand finished pieces. Once you find the piece you like, you can order it as is or change matt colors or frame styles to see what would look best in your home or office, and then place your order. The website is www.woodengallery.com.

You can also visit the newly opened exquisite Tamarak Lodge on beautiful East Bay, which features many of the Wooden Gallery’s exclusive images.

The Wooden Gallery is located at 116 E. Front St., and their phone number is 231-941-0823.
